In the School of B Auditorium
I attended the seminar presented by Mr. Spencer Wells. The title refers to the location, which I might add is very impressive compared to the other auditoriums I’ve been in at Howard University, but that’s a different topic. The seminar was interesting in the beginning. Seeing that I am a Biology major, alot of the information I recognized and understood. Even though evolution is one of my least favorite topics in Biology, I have no problem learning it. The only problem I had with the Seminar is the tone of Mr. Wells voice. No doubt that he is knowledgeable, its just his way of presenting the information wasn’t very helpful. His voice was kind of at an even low tone throughout the entire seminar which kind of bored me. Despite the people around me that were sleep, I managed to keep my eyes open throughout the majority of his lecture. I think all of the work that he has done should be acknowledged. Well, that’s all for now. =)

President Ribeau’s Convocation Speech
On September 26, 2008, I had the pleasure of attending my first convocation at Howard University. My seminar teacher, Dr. Barbara Griffin adivsed her students to arrive ahead of time in order to secure a seat. Along with my friend Donette, I headed to Cramton Auditorium at 10:15 to wait for the convocation. While sitting there, I noticed the stage set up and all the different additions that were present to accomodate convocation, such as camera’s and reserved seating. When the professors entered, I noticed the different colors of the robes and sashes that were present. Hopefully that can be me one day. I decided to take notes while Pres. Ribeau gave his speech. My first impression of him was that he is very down to earth and is talking to his audience instead of at his audience. It makes the entire experience much more enjoyable when the speaker isn’t boring. I proceeded with taking notes as Dr. Ribeau spoke. His scripture was from Psalms 19:14: “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptably in thy sight, oh Lord, my strength and my redeemer.” I can recall saying this scripture every Sunday in church after Sunday School was over. His three topics were: Who is Sidney Ribeau, the Spirit of Howard University, and What we must do to maintain the academic standing of HU. My favorite part of Dr. Ribeau’s speech was his criticism of the administration of Howard. As a student, I know the difficulties of dealing with the A-Building and the lack of supplies in certain classes. Dr. Ribeau stated everything that he knew was wrong with Howard. He then proceeded to say how we must fix it. I have a good feeling about Dr. Ribeau and I know he means well with the University. I think Howard’s prayers have been answered with this new President, and I hope that all that he says will happen will come to pass. I left the Convocation with my head held a little higher and more faith in my institution.

Hello world!
I am a Freshman in the College of Arts and Sciences at the illustrious Howard University. My current major is Biology, but expect that to change. I will become a successful Pediatrician. I plan to reside in Houston, TX as soon as I am settled and stable. I am nice, goofy and caring about others. I love sports! I also love my family. Without them I am nothing. First comes God, He is everything.
